Miranda's Nest

Miranda's Nest is a personal blog authored by Miranda, a 21 year old University of Mauritius student. This blog was started in December 2007 since Miranda "wanted to try the experience after reading blogs by talented people", as she says in her first post.Though posts are sometimes rare on Miranda's blog, she has succeeded in getting some regular readers and recently a Google PR 2, which has tremendously delighted the author.

Miranda usually writes on various subjects and issues. Sometimes she expresses herself on things that have annoyed her or on her love for music and guitars and sometimes she lets her readers discover an aspect of her personality. An example of this is found in the post where she reveals seven weird things about her. A post we have particularly liked is the one where she tries to compel herself to devote some time to her blog. This post is so sincere and well-illustrated that it makes you want to go on a safari and dive in Miranda's dream as well.

Regarding the layout, Miranda's Nest is very minimalist with only the essential sidebar widgets. The blog wears Douglas Bowman's No. 897 blogger layout proudly. The guitar picture in the sidebar adds a pleasant touch to the whole blog, giving Miranda's nest a cozy and personal feel.

On the whole Miranda's Nest is deeply recommended if you want to delve into a world of guitars in the girly way or simply if you wish to know more of Miranda's life which is unique and worth writing about. An advice to the author on our behalf is to keep blogging and let her inspiration take over. We sincerely wish to see a flourishing nest...

Adi's Haven

Adi's Haven is a blog by Adhilah, a young Mauritian student who is currently studying in St. Denis, Reunion Island. As the title suggests, this blog is a haven for the author where she writes about her student life and some leisure moments that she has at times. This personal blog was started in July of this year and by reading Adhilah's post one can feel that the author really enjoys blogging and tries her best to update her blog regularly.

I have particularly enjoyed the post entitled Happiness where the author gives her opinion on a particular situation that has touched her.

As for the blog template, it is a pre-made one which I feel suits the blog just right; the purple color and the full moon in the backdrop add a touch of fantasy to the whole blog. The sidebar is quite minimalist but this only draws the attention of readers more towards the content.

On the whole, this blog is true to the spirit of a personal blog and I highly recommend a visit especially if you are Adi's friend or just wish to know about the student life in Reunion Island.

The Growing Pains of a Slightly Bent, not Broken Sunflower

This blog is a personal one and is fascinating in many ways. It's full of life and makes me actually want to quit my "diplomatic style" and give a real review, I mean real. The author, Avi, is a very opiniated girl, and from what we have read, her life must be full of laughter too because she sure gave me some great laugh when I was browsing through her blog. Her posts are captivating and show the real her, without pretences, without restraints. This blog fills all the requirements of an excellent personal blog. It is all about the author, in a sincere and honest way, her days are narrated and the reader gets the feeling of being right there, listening to her talking.

We have particularly appreciated this post where she gave a very original review of MBB. I am sure you will laugh while reading this. Her humour is unique and very sensible. Bring your brains along while reading this blog! And be prepared to encounter some Mauritian and international swear words!

About the layout, it is very feminine, with various hues of pink in the color scheme and some lovely pictures of the author and her fiancé on the sidebar. This blog contains a shoutbox where readers and friends can leave their messages, because, *big scoop* the author is getting married soon! So go ahead and run to this blog to express your wishes and watch out for those humor buttons and warning signs, like the one saying "be gentle on my curves" found in the sidebar.

To conclude, we would like wish Sunflower Avi all the joys of the world and we hope her wedding is a tremendous success. Have fun and keep blogging!

Diet Hack Dot Com

Diet Hack is a blog authored by Yan, a young medical student currently studying in France. This blog was launched in September of this year and has become a very successful one in a very short time with over 900 subscribers and more than 1,900 visitors on a single day! The contents deal essentially on subjects related to health and nutrition and this blog is just the right place to go if you are looking for some useful tips and solutions to some of your day to day health issues. Indeed, the sentence "Nothing fancy, just keeping you healthy" illustrates well the purpose of this blog.

The post we have particularly appreciated is the one on why packed juices should be avoided and on the benefits of making your own juices at home. This habit should be encouraged among Mauritians. Unfortunately we do not consume enough fruits and vegetables to meet the recommended daily dose. We deeply recommend you to read this post and give your opinions on Yan's blog.

Another post we particularly recommend is the one on how to minimise the effects of a hangover. This might come handy to some of you! =:>

About the layout, it is a rather minimalist one with a majority of white and green in the color scheme, the ideal atmosphere for a health blog. This blog is rather content-oriented with not much pretence in the sidebar widgets. The hidden archives widget is very original and it facilitates navigation once opened.

We sincerely wish to mention that we were truly proud to know that this blog's author is 100% Mauritian and we hope that Diethack's success inspires other Mauritians to move towards pro-blogging.

Kavi Khedo's Blog

Kavi Khedo is a senior lecturer in the CSE department at the University of Mauritius and has been blogging since February of this year.

Mr. Khedo blogs mostly about computing and research related topics. On this blog, readers can also find interesting posts on a particular English football team which we guess is Mr. Khedo's favourite. Readers interested in computing as a career option can find the information that they need by browsing through this blog. We have also found this post on how to become your own boss particularly interesting and full of valuable tips. Readers might also find interesting the post on Facebook, the popular networking site, as well as that on the food and cultural festival which was held in our local China Town.

All of Mr. Khedo's posts are characterised by a touch of professionalism and is highly recommended for those interested in computing and tech issues. We would even advise you to subscribe to this blog for update notifications.

About the template, it is a rather formal one with a customised banner. The color scheme is elegant and simple, making the blog a content-oriented one.

So don't forget to pay a visit to Mr. Khedo's blog. You will definitely find it an interesting read, even if you are not a tech fan!

something to talk about...

Ladies and gentlemen, or should we say dudettes and dudes, today we will be reviewing one of the most rocking Mauritian bloggers and she is Morinn, the author of something to talk about... Morinn is a 20-year old student of the University of Mauritius and has been blogging since November of last year. It has not been an easy task for us to review almost one year of "work" and we have been thoroughly impressed by this author's style of writing and way of presenting her posts.

Morinn's blog is divided into 4 main sections. The craft and gardening section is where the author posts about plants and flowers and where readers can find tips and tutorials on ways to decorate their home and garden. The rock and related stuff section contains post related to rock such as song reviews, concert details and some opinions on the local rock scene. The everyday stuff section contains post on Morinn's everyday life and in the events and opinions section readers can find interesting posts on important local as well as international events. We have also noticed that Morinn has participated in various "blogging for a good cause" events to sensitise people on certain issues such as women abuse, respect of children, organ donation and AIDS. Her posts are often accompanied by a slight tinge of humour and it is probably that which made her gain some popularity in the blogosphere. The posts we have particularly liked are the one on weird photography and the one on her new hang out place where the author shows her creativity and versatility as a blogger.

As for the layout, it is a very original one with a color scheme that gives a very zen look to the whole blog. The banner is a photograph which has been taken by the author herself. On the top right of the blog body the author has placed buttons linked to each one of her labels, this facilitates browsing on the blog. The sidebar contains some very unique elements such as the "word running through my head" and "mood" widgets as well as a shoutbox where the author interacts with her readers and friends.

We deeply advise you to pay a visit to Morinn's blog if you have never been to it. It is a very friendly and reader-oriented blog. You might love it!

Priscus-former

Priscus-former is the blog of a 19-year old girl named Yusha. Yusha is currently doing her 2nd year of Bsc Political Science at the university of Mauritius.

Yusha blogs mainly about herself, her life, her course and some events and matters concerning her studies and the university which have annoyed her. You can also check out the pages on her blog where she stores her political thoughts, paintings, opinions on faith and Mauritius.

From her posts one can make out that Yusha is quite disturbed by the attitude of some people towards her. However we will deeply advise Yusha to try to vary a little bit the subjects of her posts. As a blogger, Yusha has the potential to trigger good debates and she should use this potential to her advantage.

The layout of the blog is quite simple with an elegant banner and a majority of white in the blog's body. The font colours and images used in the blog posts give the blog a rather childish look, which is probably intentional. The sidebar contains the very interesting Amung.us button which can let you know how many persons are browsing this blog along with you. The MyBlogLog widget lets visitors know who are Yusha's other readers and is a very helpful tool to the author as well.

We deeply recommend a visit to Yusha's blog if you wish to know more about the Mauritian university life or just want a nice read on some of the topics mentioned above.

Irfaan's Blog

This Blog is simply wonderful and if we had to use a word to describe it, it would have been "Creative". In fact, we feel that this blog is Irfaan's creative haven where most of the time he showcases his works. For instance UOM fans might appreciate the unofficial UOM wallpaper designed by Irfaan himself.

Irfaan did some posts on some other topics as well. You might wish to check out his posts on Windows XP, Linux, mobile phones and Indian cinema. We have particularly appreciated his short reviews on Dan Brown's novels.

What characterises Irfaan's blog is mainly the shortness of the posts. This allows the author to make his point quickly and facilitates reading. However, very short posts are not really advisable in certain cases since they often do not provide enough material to encourage readers' comments.

As for the template, it is very original and the banner is the work of the author himself. The white background and the green and black font is very pleasing to the eye. The sidebar is black and contains some very interesting elements such as the "delicate info", "watching", "reading" and "playing" ones. The tag cloud, which is also present in the sidebar is very useful to readers seeking to read posts on particular subjects.

All in all Irfaan's blog is highly recommended by us. So do pay a visit and leave a comment behind if anything triggers your thoughts.

The Dullest Blog Ever...

The Dullest Blog Ever... is the second blog which makes it on our "coup de coeur" section. We discovered this blog accidentally while going through blogs found on the blogroll of some of our members. From what we have gathered, this blog's author has just turned 20 and is a very fun-loving as well as mature, deep and intelligent girl.

Through Rooch's posts her voice can be heard. She is very poetic, insightful, true to herself and honest in her writing. Rooch blogs mainly about herself and her posts are without the slightest pretention. We get the feeling that she truly enjoys making each one of her posts and never expects people to read or appreciate; she just wants to express herself. These are very important aspects of her blog and are what makes Rooch's blog a good one.

About the layout, it is rather minimalist for the moment. From what we have read, the author is constantly changing it to suit her mood.

We deeply advise you to pay a visit to Rooch's blog if you are looking for a nice read on random subjects and want to know what a good personal blog looks like. You will be really amazed!

.ılılı.Progress Bar.ılılı.

.ılılı.Progress Bar.ılılı. is the title of this very original blog we have decided to present to you in our "coup de coeur" section.

The author, M0rph, is a DJ, and a very talented one from what we have gathered. He is also a hardcore gaming addict and has quite a sense of humour.

We have loved the way the author expresses himself. We feel that for a blog to be really personal the reader needs to "hear" the author's voice and tone in his writing and m0rph does just that, perhaps unintentionally. This is why we have decided to make you discover this blog. This one will not be subjected to the "U Rate" system as we have not asked the author's permission to review.

The colour scheme in the layout of this blog is original and attractive. This blog contains a shoutbox and a Radio Nubaz widget where you can click and listen to music on your media player.

This blog looks like a very promising one in terms of originality and personality. The author is true to himself in his posts and we deeply wish this blog a long life.

Chervine's Blog

This blog was started on the 11th of July by Chervine, an 18 year-old young man, so it is a relatively new one. The author posts mainly about tech and internet related issues on the global as well as local plane. You might wish to check out his post on Emtel's new Broadband Internet Service. It contains valuable details on the pricing and limitations of this new service.

Chervine did some posts on TV series, stuff related to football and some tips related to mobile phones.

We have been particularly struck by the way the author presents facts and information concisely. He does not get into too much details and this facilitates reading and understanding of the subject and can help in encouraging readers to add their opinions to the discussion.

We would however request Chervine to label his posts as this might help his readers find information on particular subjects.

The template is a rather dark one consisting of black and dark shades of blue. This gives a rather masculine look to the whole blog. The sidebar contains some useful widget such as a shoutbox where you can leave your messages on the blog and the 3jam widget which enables readers to send a text message to Chervine's mobile phone.

We deeply advise you to pay a visit to this very informative blog. It is truly worth it!

Bored? Me too...

Bored? Me too... is the title of one of the most popular Mauritian blogs we have come across. It's author, Yash is a student at the University of Mauritius who writes mostly about local issues and university life.

His blog posts on some controversial issues usually trigger debates and cause his commenters to "flame" each other. The post on SP Raddhoa's death is a vivid example of this.

Moreover, Yash wrote about some problems affecting himself and his friends at the university and some solutions were brought as a result of his blog post. This shows of us to what extent blogging is becoming a powerful media tool.

Yash also blogs about music, some tech stuff and he did some posts related to football. This versatility can somehow explain his popularity. In other words, you won't get bored at Bored? Me too... .

We have particularly appreciated the frequent riddles or mind games posted on the blog and which aim at encouraging his readers to think logically. You can try to solve one of them today as the comments for the most recent logic game has not yet been approved.

Moving on to the template, you will notice that it is quite minimalist with a very soothing color scheme consisting mostly of light tints of green. The font color and style makes it an eye-friendly blog and readers are more drawn to the content.

So we deeply recommend you to pay a visit if you have never been to this blog, it might stir your interest in one thing or another!

The Media Guru

Today we present to you the Media Guru. This is a blog by CarrotMadman a.k.a the Media Guru. CarrotMadman being an anagram of this 19 year-old BEng Mechatronics student's name. Yes! He is only 19. After reading his posts you will be impressed of the maturity of CarrotMadman's writing and his unique professionalism.

The Media Guru does mostly reviews on various subjects, be they music albums, movies, games, or new products launched my Microsoft, Apple Inc. or Nokia. You might also learn some new tips and tricks and do watch out for his posts about the Harry Potter series.

What we really appreciate with the Media Guru's posts is the fact that they are very well illustrated with relevant photos and graphics. We get the feeling that the author devotes himself to each and every post he makes and in the way the content is presented to his readers and the result is really very good!

About the blog's template, it is rather minimalist with a majority of white used in the color scheme. The banner, which has been made by the author himself is very original and adds some colors to the whole blog. The sidebar contains a shoutbox where we have noticed that people post some questions or ask for help regarding blogging or tech issues. This encourages interaction between the author and his readers. We have also loved the huge animated feed button.

To conclude we would like to add that we have been thoroughly impressed by this blog and would recommend it to all tech and media fans out there! Indian music lovers will also find some links to download some latest songs' preview. So go ahead and pay a visit to the Media Guru. You will definitely be entertained!

Infinity's Spot

Infinity's Spot is the blog of a young University of Mauritius student, whom we will call Infinity.

Infinity blogs mostly about "Geek Stuff" as he calls them and in this section you can find articles related to Windows XP, Linux, MSN Messenger, PC modding and an analysis of the very famous mauritian internet connections.

Infinity also did some posts about his life and about his favourite football club. We won't name the football club. You will just have to check it out for yourself. =:>

The post we have particularly liked is his review of the movie 300. The review is very original and fun. Infinity was literally pushing his readers to the theatres!

About the template, it is a GeckoandFly one which has been modified by Infinity himself to give it a dark look. The color scheme suits the banner and vice versa. You will love the signed "Geekily yours" on the banner.

We really encourage you to pay a visit to this blog if you are a "geek" and proud to be one, just like Infinity. You might learn some new things!

Way to go Infinity! Keep posting.

WazeeLand 1.5

Wazeeland 1.5 whose author is the young and dashing Waz is an amazing blog. We have decided for once to review the template first and then move on to the content.

The template is a Neo-Powered one and this goes as a perfect example of Neo's genius in template creations though Waz has got full credits for the personalized banner. The template is light and makes navigation through the blog very easy and fast.

Coming on to the content, Waz posts about almost anything ranging from "geek" stuffs to jokes and some satirical writings. The author is also particularly talented at producing comic from photographs of real persons! Waz's posts are relatively short and he posts almost everyday. So, it does not take much time to browse through this blog and this is a plus to getting regular readers.

The post we have particularly liked is the press cutting of a newspaper reporting the first divorce case directly related to the 9/11. Check this out, it will trigger some thoughts.

We deeply recommend this blog because of the author's creativity, diversity in subjects posted and the fact that Waz created a button for us, just kidding.

P.S : As you have noticed we have a new reviewer and this is the first post done by me.

Me Versus Nothing

Me Versus Nothing
is a personal blog whose author is a young LLB student Keli. Keli mostly writes about herself, her life, her dreams and how she sometimes feels "pissed off" by certain events in her life or around her.

This blog is very bold and mature, showing the constant struggle of the author to accept her adulthood and her responsibilities while balancing it all with some fun and relaxing moment.

Be prepared to learn that LLB students can be as funloving as anyone of us and Keli's blog acts as a counter-statement to all of us who treat intelligent people as bookworm aliens.

Be prepared to laugh, cry, be amazed and shake your head in agreement as she presents her ideas, thoughts and opinions to you.

The team has particularly appreciated this post about Keli's designs. She is very talented in creating lovely accessories for herself and her friends.

Me Versus Nothing
feels like a private den for keli and her friends.

The color scheme of the blog template gives it psychedelic feel and this matches the spirit of the blog. The last fm widget on the sidebar keeps us up to date with Keli's recent music preferences.

To conclude, we would really recommend you Keli's blog if you wish to read a good personal blog.

CSEo6o7's blog

Firstly the team would like to mention that reviewing this blog was a real pleasure to us and we thank Avishen for sharing this.

This blog is about a bunch of crazy classmates who live life as it comes and enjoy capturing the weird and funny incidents of everyday. Indeed, their blog is a whole repertoire of bizarre photographs of them and other people in class, in the cafetaria, outdoor or even in the showers!

The notes to the photographs are most of the time written in creole so you can get to learn some fun expressions and can become a fan of the " waaaaaaaa". The " waaaaaaaa" being, as described by them:

waaaaaaaa, this is how we greet in here....original members of the waaaaaa group know this!! lol, bon B...ca C nu blog, saki paC preke tt les jours..ban phenomena ki nu rencontrer...ek ban folly ki nu fr....

We have particularly appreciated the post or rather photographs of the purchase of their new/old car. These guys are so weird that you will wonder whether they even exist for real!

About the template, it is a default one and it is simple. The blue is neutral keeping the reader focussed on the content.

However posting comments on this blog is a bit tricky, which is the fault of the blogging platform used and can be a drawback to the reader-author interaction.

Anyway we deeply recommend this blog if you are looking for a good laugh. The creativity and good humour of the authors will definitely cheer you up!

What You Wanna Read Today?

What You Wanna Read Today
is the title of a new blog which was started in September. This is a niche-oriented blog as all the posts are book reviews and indeed, we found the title to be very appropriate.

The author of the blog, Loona is a particularly talented young lady when it comes to presenting her reviews. She expresses her opinion of the novel in a subtle way and draws the attention of the reader more towards the content of the reviewed novel.

We have particularly enjoyed her review of a novel called You Belong To Me in which she posted the lyrics of a song which has influenced the killer in the story.

Most of the novels reviewed by Loona are those which are mostly read by a female audience. So we guess that her blog will be appreciated by female readers.

The template of this blog carries a majority of pink hues and this gives a very feminine look to the whole blog. The sidebar contains just the essential widgets in addition to a personalized, "currently reading" widget where the author displays the name of the novel which she is currently reading and which she will probably review.

On the whole we think that this blog is very promising but the author should try to post more often. She could also try to diversify by reviewing specialised magazines or why not some local novels?

so, keep the good work going Loona.

Ma life...Yesterday...Today...Tomorrow by Maliha

This is another new blog by a 21-year old young lady, Maliha. This blog has struck me as being very original and mature in terms of the content.

Maliha did some posts about relationships. You can find articles about the rules of attraction between 2 individuals or about how to find out if you are in love.

However, this blog is not just about relationship advices, Maliha also blogs about herself, her life and her childhood experiences. She also posted a recipe on her blog and did some movie reviews. We found them to be very interesting reads. She also did a post on the application of henna on the skin which we found very original and informative.

About the template, we think that it should be somewhat personalized to match the content and personality of the author. It would be another plus if Maliha could post more frequently.

So we deeply recommend you to pay a visit to this blog. You might learn some new things!
